AWESOME EXPERIENCE. This is an old Boarding House that evolved into a restaurant because Mrs. Wilks cooking was sooooo good. If you ever get within 500 miles of Savannah, GA. you need to come to this place. We spoke with lots of locals and fellow travelers and all agree, this is better than Paula Deen's "Lady & Sons" place, when comes to eating. We got there today at 12:30 and stood in line for 1 hour and 15 minutes to get in (would stand even longer next time). When you get in, you're grouped with a total of 10 including yourselves. It's usually the people you were standing in line with. When you sit down the table is already prepared and your food is being placed on the table. You are served your drinks (either sweet or unsweetened tea). There is a total of 22 dishes of food served home style in bowls and platters. Once everyone has passed the bowls of food around, here comes a platter of fresh fried chicken. WOW, this was the best chicken either of us has ever eaten. We had: green beans, pinto beans, rice, lima beans, squash, creme peas, chicken & dumplin's, macaroni & cheese, sweet potatoes, beef stew, barbecue pork, mashed potatoes, gravy, collard greens, black eyed peas, platter of rolls & cornbread muffins, fried chicken, cabbage, brown rice & sausage, okra & tomatoes, potato salad and blackberry cobbler and banana pudding for dessert. GET THIS, when you're done eating, you have to take your dirty dishes to the kitchen yourself. We got to meet and got to know all we sat with and where they were from, etc, etc.
We were going to do additional sightseeing in the afternoon but we were so full and miserable, we had to go back to the house and moan & groan and take a nap. NO DINNER TONIGHT.
