As most of you already know, Shuttle Discovery lifted off right on time. WOW!!! what an event. Watching it on TV is nothing like being there. Even at 20 miles from the launch pad we were able to see the initial plume of smoke as the giant engines ignited. Then Discovery started to lift from the pad into the dawns early light with a flash of light beyond anyone's imagination. The entire bay (water) lit up like there was a Sun beneath its surface. Here's the amazing part. My first initial impression was a slight disappointment as the shuttle "silently" lifted into the sky up and up with billowing plume's of smoke. Not a sound in the air!!! It reached its point were it began to tilt and make its roll, when suddenly the sound reached our location. OH MY GOD!!!!! A deafening thunderous roar with tremors as the ground and truck began to shake beneath us. Thousands of spectators yelling as we did. I've waited so many years to see this and it was soooo worth the wait. Carol and I both had tears in our eyes as we watched. What an experience. Nothing could top this!! Oh wait, we are headed to Disney World and visit with Wendy and family.
